After acquiring Japan midfielder Wataru Endo, Liverpool is still looking for a midfielder who can make an immediate impact in midfield. While names such as Bayern midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and Fluminense midfielder Andre are frequently reported, all kinds of names have surfaced and disappeared.
And the new player that has surfaced is Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, who plays for Aston Villa. The 25-year-old midfielder, who has played more than 140 Premier League games, is a name under consideration at Liverpool, according to Ben Jacobs, sports journalist.
“Yeah, Douglas Luiz is a name that has been discussed internally by Liverpool. I’m not aware of any movement at this point.”
“I think that it’s crystal clear that Liverpool wants to add between now and the end of the window if the right name becomes available.”
In the transfer market last summer, he was considered to be a strong candidate to join Arsenal, but he eventually stayed at Aston Villa. In October of the same year, he agreed to a new contract until 2026, and with Unai Emery at the helm, he has become an absolute mainstay of the club, playing like a fish out of water.
He has started in three consecutive games so far this season, and there is no reason to sell a mainstay at this point in his career. Liverpool is not prepared to pay an exorbitant fee for the Brazilian midfielder, unless there is a release clause in his contract, and it is difficult to envision a future in which the Brazilian midfielder plays at Anfield.
