Liverpool, which replaced its midfield with Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch in this summer’s transfer market, achieved some success in the generational change in the midfielders it had targeted.
The new signings have been producing results in the Premier League and Europa League, and at this point in time, they are a substantial reinforcement.
However, there are reports that Liverpool may move to further strengthen their midfield this winter or next summer, and rumors of a move to Liverpool for Fluminense midfielder Andre continue to abound.
Meanwhile, Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis was mentioned this summer as one of the candidates for a midfield revamp.
Although it never really took off, Graeme Bailey, an English journalist, revealed the fact that Liverpool likes the player and that Manchester United is also evaluating him.
“A lot of people like Florentino Luis, Neves’ midfield partner at Benfica. Liverpool like him a lot and Manchester United have had a look as well, but everyone when they watch Benfica this is the guy standing out,”Talking Transfers Podcast
Born in Angola, the former Portugal U-21 midfielder was on loan at Monaco and Getafe before becoming a regular last season. He made 54 appearances throughout the season, and showed a solid response for the powerful Portuguese club.
There have been no reports of Liverpool making any concrete moves for the 24-year-old midfielder, who is expected to be a mainstay this season, and Bailey has said that he only likes him and is one of several candidates.
If they were to acquire him, the aforementioned Brazilian midfielder Andre is the realistic candidate, and the likelihood of a deal with Benfica is infinitesimally low.
But you never know what will happen with reinforcements, and will the future come when Florentino Luis plays at Anfield, defying expectations…?
