Fabio Carvalho and Rhys Williams, who had failed to produce results for their rental partners this winter, ended their loans, while Nathaniel Phillips returned to Anfield after his rental contract expired.

Injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas also led to the recall of 21-year-old defender Owen Beck, who had been playing for Dundee.

The return of the Wales U-21 sideback has led to an overstuffed left-back lineup. Young players such as Callum Scanlon and Luke Chambers are in reserve, while Robertson and Tsimikas are expected to return this month.

According to The Athletic, Wigan Athletic are close to agreeing a loan deal with Liverpool for 19-year-old defender Luke Chambers, who has also played in three Europa League games this season, and is expected to move to the club.

During last summer’s transfer window, Chambers was also the subject of interest from Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, with a loan move to the Bundesliga being discussed. In the end, he stayed at Anfield and made four first-team appearances.

Will Liverpool be able to develop their young talent on loan?
