After discussions with Jurgen Klopp during the transfer market last summer, English midfielder Jordan Henderson, who was eager to move to Saudi Arabia, joined Al Ettifaq, coached by Steven Gerrard, with whom he played as a youngster.
However, after only six months, he has changed his mind and now wants to return to Europe.
While a number of clubs, most notably Ajax in the Netherlands, are interested in acquiring him, Gianluca Di Marzio, an expert on Italian transfers, says that Juventus has been in talks to make a short-term move for the player.
“Massimiliano Allegri’s side have held talks with Henderson over a short-term loan deal for the second half of the campaign.”
“However, the 33-year-old, who is keen on returning to Europe is seeking an 18-month deal.”
Negotiations are likely to be difficult due to the high salaries he receives in the Middle East, as well as the background of Al Ettifaq’s desire to cover the majority of his salary. Furthermore, an 18-month contract may be a difficult time frame to offer the midfielder, who will turn 34 this June.
Will Jordan Henderson be able to break away from Saudi Arabia and return to European soccer this winter as he hopes?
