As last season came to an end, England midfielder Jordan Henderson decided to end his 12 years at Anfield and move to Saudi Arabia. Although Liverpool did not want him to leave, the 33-year-old midfielder’s wish to go to the Middle East became a reality.
However, life in his new home of Al Ettifaq did not go as planned. The team’s results did not improve, and the weather and culture, which were very different from England, were also troubling.
After only six months, the former Liverpool midfielder was eager to return to Europe, and Ajax of the Netherlands was serious about acquiring him.
According to The Athletic, Henderson has agreed to leave Al Ettifaq and is making final arrangements to terminate his three-year contract. He has already reached a basic agreement with Ajax and is close to officially announcing the permanent transfer.
The player has returned to England from the winter training camp in Abu Dhabi, where he is expected to complete paperwork and work out the details.
The English midfielder is returning to European soccer once again, but will he be able to show the same level of performance on the pitch as he did before his move to Saudi Arabia?
