Even his agent was shocked...Hull City's executive vice-chairman tells the story of the Fabio Carvalho deal Transfers

Fabio Carvalho, a Portuguese U-21 midfielder who grew up in Fulham’s lower divisions, made the step up to Liverpool in the summer of 2022 after a successful season in the Championship.

Initially, he started in the middle of the lineup but dropped down the pecking order in the second half of last season and finished the season with little time on the pitch.

Last summer, he joined RB Leipzig on loan in search of playing time, but he was unable to get any satisfactory minutes in the Bundesliga, and his challenge in Germany ended after only six months.

Liverpool were looking for a new loan partner this winter, and the decision was made to move to Hull City, where he was assured of playing time.

He has played in every game since joining the Championship club, where he has become familiar with the game. He has scored three goals so far and has been a mainstay in the team.

Hull City vice-president Tan Kesler gave a behind-the-scenes look at the move, revealing that the player’s agent had doubts about whether the club could afford the rental fee.

“In this business, how fast you get information is key,”

“We monitor the German market closely and getting that information first gave us a competitive advantage but convincing players like Fabio isn’t easy.”

“Even his agent, who is a great friend of ours, was shocked at our approach for him.”

“He said: ‘Can you afford him?’ I said it’s not a matter of affording him, we want him so much we’re going to clear the budget for him.”

Liverpool will be working on a new team next season with a new manager.

Although they failed to gain 100% confidence under Jurgen Klopp, there is no denying that they could be the star of the team under the new manager.

Will he gain confidence at Hull City and get a different view at Anfield…?
