Portugal U-21 midfielder Fabio Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2022, but his playing time declined as the season progressed. Before this season, he was loaned to RB Leipzig in search of playing time.

However, he ended his loan move early, as he had been making many mid-season appearances in the Bundesliga.

This winter, Liverpool was looking for a new rental destination and reached an agreement with Hull City in the Championship. He was given a starting role at the club immediately after joining and has so far been named in the starting lineup for all league games.

When asked to evaluate his first year at Anfield, the 21-year-old midfielder reflected on the ups and downs, but said he has learned a lot from his teammates and manager Jurgen Klopp at the time.

“It was a bit like my career has been: ups and downs. But I learnt a lot there, with players at a different level. I went to Liverpool because I want to be the best player in the world,”

“And to get there I have to compete every day with the best in the world. I learnt a lot from those players who have so much experience in the Premier League and the Champions League. It’s a very strong group, both on and off the pitch, who have taken me in as one of their own. I’m very grateful to them and to Mr Klopp.”

For the Tresh Bedrash-born midfielder, who is regaining his true form in the familiar Championship, it is said that Hull City will move to acquire him if they are promoted to the Premier League.

On the other hand, the pecking order at Liverpool is likely to change as Klopp is replaced by a new manager. He will return to Anfield for preseason. Once again, he will be competing hard to win a regular spot in the first team.

At 21 years old, Carvalho is still a blossoming talent and has the potential to become a world-class player, but when asked about players he admires, he mentioned the name of his country’s star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, without question. He also said that his family plays a role in keeping him motivated.

“There’s only one, isn’t there? [more laughter] Cristiano Ronaldo! The way he works is incredible. I know people who played with him at Manchester United and, even at his age, he still works the same way and takes care of himself. Everyone tells me he’s a madman who lives and breathes football. He always wants to be the best, that’s why he’s reached the level he has,”

“Of course. It gives me motivation every day. Seeing my mum and dad get up early every day to go to work. Then leaving one job for another so they could earn a bit more… Those things give me strength. When I’m tired, or don’t feel like training so much, I think about those moments and that I need to give my parents a better life,”
