Ruben Amorim is not the frontrunner…British journalist explains the criteria Liverpool are looking for

Barcelona out of contention for manager Ruben Amorim...The most likely scenario is to take charge at Anfield Transfers

Liverpool, who are working on a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, had reportedly been targeting Xabi Alonso, who is also a popular supporter favourite, but the Spanish coach decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen. From that moment on, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim was moved up to the main contender.

There is a mixed bag of information on the coaching appointment. Some reports suggest that a basic agreement has been reached with a Portuguese coach, while new names have emerged, such as Simone Inzaghi, head of Inter Milan, making it difficult to get a true picture of the situation.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein, clarifies the situation at this stage and denies the fact that he is close to taking over Amorim. In addition, he detailed the man Liverpool are looking for to replace Klopp.

“Now, Xabi Alonso’s decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen provides some clarity for Liverpool, they were able to move on,”

“I’ve said before that Roberto De Zerbi is not one who I think will be getting this job. I don’t think he is the profile they are looking for. Ruben Amorim has been heavily linked with the role but it’s my understanding that despite being a candidate he’s not a shoo-in for the job, he’s not necessarily the top option. We’ll have to see how that plays out.”

“Liverpool are looking at a number of options, no doubt,”

“They are finalising their work on them and they will not be afraid to be brave and think outside of the obvious candidates or the popular names.”

“They won’t be looking for applause, they’ll be looking to make the right decision for Liverpool Football Club. Based on the style of play – high tempo, energy, an exciting brand of football. They’ll be looking for someone to connect with supporters and really energise them as well, somebody who has as good track record on injuries and player availability and somebody who also will make sure players will improve, lots of which has been done by Jurgen Klopp.”

“This is a massive moment in the their history and they’ll be paying attention to that.”
