Liverpool have added four new midfielders this season after Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left the club. They have started to rebuild their midfield, which was called the cause of last season’s poor form, and were close to acquiring a defensive midfielder two years ago.
Liverpool approached French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, then of Monaco, as a long-term replacement for Henderson and Fabinho, and held talks with him about joining. However, the 24-year-old midfielder opted to go to Real Madrid, who were also in the running for him.
Nacional reports that Liverpool are once again set to challenge for the French midfielder, who has been a mainstay in the Spanish capital and has made over 80 appearances in La Liga and the Champions League.
The French midfielder is a physical player who can win the ball in the depths of midfield and link up with the attack. He has also made 31 appearances for France and has established himself in the country’s talented squad.
He has until the summer of 2028 left on his contract with Real Madrid and the club has no reason to release him. He is not Liverpool’s top priority either, and it is safe to say that there is ‘zero’ chance of them making a move for the player, who would require a large transfer fee.
It’s hard to envisage a future with Tchouaméni playing at Anfield, but what are the chances of a move for a new midfielder…?
