Leroy Sané over Michael Olise... Ex-Liverpool midfielder has a view on his former club's reinforcements Transfers

‘Liverpool’s ace in the hole’ Mohamed Salah is getting older and is finding it harder to break through with his previous speed and dribbling, and rumours persist of a position change or a move to Saudi Arabia next season. Along with this, the search for a successor to Egyptian King continues.

Liverpool list European-rated wingers such as PSV Eindhoven FW Johan Bakayoko, but Crystal Palace’s Michael Oliece and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané are also reportedly targets.

Former England U-21 midfielder Jermaine Pennant, who scored three goals and 18 assists in 81 games for Anfield during his playing career, has said that the German forward should be targeted rather than the Crystal Palace attacker, referring to his old club’s reinforcement plans.

“I don’t think Olise is an ideal replacement for Mo Salah,”

“You need someone with more experience, like Leroy Sane. For me that would be a great signing, he has pace, he cuts in on his right or left. When he played at the Emirates, he was absolutely unreal, he tore Arsenal apart.”

“So, if he can do that to Arsenal at the Emirates, he’d be an amazing signing. He knows the Premier League with City, so I’d rather Leroy than Olise, even though he’s a great player.”

On a pragmatic line, it is unlikely that Liverpool will be in the market for either player. The German international is too old to be a long-term successor.

As for the France U-21 winger, Premier League sides are expected to battle it out, and the transfer fee may be up for grabs. In addition, his poor injury record is a concern.
