Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg a top target...Mainz aim to lure him away from Liverpool Transfers

On loan to Mainz from Liverpool this season, 22-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg made 33 Bundesliga appearances. Of these, he has been named in the starting line-up in 31 of them, and has lived up to his manager’s faith in him.

The young centre-back is gaining a growing reputation in Germany, but with new manager Arne Slot, also from the Netherlands, taking charge at Anfield, some have argued that he will be given a chance at Liverpool next season.

However, Mainz have not given up on the player. According to BILD, the Bundesliga club want him to stay on next season and will begin negotiations with Liverpool within the next few days.

A full transfer is expected to cost €10 million, but it remains to be seen whether the German club will be able to offer this amount.

They are also looking to secure a midfielder and a striker, and it is unlikely that they would be willing to spend a transfer fee that amounts to a crebre code.

At the moment, Liverpool are expected to hold talks over a loan move again next season, but the time is approaching when they must decide on the departure of the former Netherlands U-21 defender, who is under contract until June 2026.
