Former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot takes over from Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool’s head coach. With heavy responsibilities and high expectations, he is tackling new challenges at Anfield and will be building his team throughout pre-season.
Like his manager, Dirk Kuyt, who was born in the Netherlands and played a major role for both the national team and Liverpool during his playing days, spoke highly of the 45-year-old’s ability to lead the new Liverpool team. He said England supporters would like him and promised to lend a hand if he could help.
“Arne Slot is a family man, but he’s also a guy who is so into football – he’s 24/7 football. If you watch his press conferences, you’ll see he speaks very well and clearly expresses himself.”
“He can be funny sometimes, but he’s also very straightforward. He knows everything about football; not only Dutch football, but you could ask him anything about football and I think he could give you an answer. Premier League fans are going to like him.”
“Of course, if I can help Liverpool in any way, then I will. I’ve always been in contact with people at the club. I did some work for the foundation of the club, and I’ve done some commercial work for them, too. I’ve always been close with them. On or off the pitch, I’ve always tried to help the club because when you sign for Liverpool, you become part of a family.”

A former Dutch international who was an abundantly athletic forward but also a defensive-minded type of player, he officially retired from professional life in 2018 after an impressive total of 71 goals and 41 assists in 285 games for Liverpool.
He then began his coaching career with Feyenoord U-19 and Den Haag, and has been in charge of Beerschot VA since December 2023, with the new season being his first full season as manager.
Is there really a future for Arne Slot and Dirk Kuyt to fight together at Anfield…?
